Capacity - White My wife and I bought a brand new Whirlpool washer and dryer set. We loved it for a little over a year. Then the main bearing and the pressure sensor on the washer went out. The cost to repair would have been over $1200. We didn't pay that much for the washer. I called customer service and they told me that they would not do ANYTHING after the one year warranty period expired - "NO EXCEPTIONS!!" I found it difficult to believe that a company as established as Whirlpool would have such a policy. I talked to supervisor and pressed him on the issue. The answer remained - NO EXCEPTIONS. If anything breaks after one year, it is your responsibility. I understand normal wear and tear, but I expect the main bearing on the washer to last several years. I am still stunned that a customer service supervisor would actually tell me that after one year (even a year and a day - as I asked him) they will do NOTHING. Whirlpool does not care about anything after one year. The service man... Capacity - White DO NOT BUY THIS!!!! I have the exact problem as another reviewer. My washer was bought new directly from Whirlpool. 15 months later, the bearing is blown. Repair person just left my house this morning and said that repair will be very expensive: stainless steel basket, washer tub, motor belt, and front counter weight all need to be replaced. I don't have written estimate but when looking at these parts online, the cost for just parts is over $800 and repair tech estimated about $250 in labor charges. I have not called Whirlpool yet and dont have high hopes based on other reviewers' experiences. It looks like I need a new washer, and it won't be Whirlpool! 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful ![]() By Joseph T. Capacity - White Wow, wish I would have found these reviews before we 'invested' in a Whirlpool Duet Steam washer. Don't get me wrong, when it worked, it was a wonderful washing machine. However, I, like many others, have found the useful life of this machine to be 12 months! We purchased this new on Memorial Day 2010. In June 2011, 12 1/2 months old, and not used heavily or abused, codes F21 and F35 set. I called Whirlpool, and they indicated that the machine is out of warranty, and any repairs would be my accountability. First of all, any company that stands behind their products would show a little compassion for a customer who purchased a $1000 product from their company and experienced trouble within weeks of it being out of warranty, but not in the case of Whirlpool. Now the repair company is on a wild goose chase replacing parts trying to get it to work and after weeks is still struggling. The repair bills are climbing, and I should have just cut my losses and used it... Read more |

Capacity - White As with the others who have posted here, I would caution anyone considering buying a Whirlpool appliance, based on my experience. 18 months ago I purchased this new, front loading washer. I am a single person, living alone and don't do laundry for anyone else. I wash 2 to 3 very light loads per week (sometimes less), use soft water, etc. About a week ago I noticed a very loud noise coming out of the washer on spin cycle. I called an authorized repair shop and the repairman came by today. He informed me that a bearing was going out and that the repair bill would be $1120.70. He strongly urged me to call the Whirlpool warranty center to see if they would extend the warranty, given the circumstances. I called and--you guessed it--they essentially told me to stick it. To say that I am dissatisfied in an extreme understatement. Based on my experience, I would encourage everyone to select a different manufacturer. 17 of 20 people found the following review helpful ![]() By This review is from: Whirlpool Duet WFW94HEXW 27 Front-Load Washer 5.0 cu. ft. Capacity - White I owned several Whirlpool washers in the past. All 3 ended with machine breaking down, leaking, door not closing. Ironically, they all happened shortly after the 1 year warranty expires. It was almost as if Whirlpool quality engineers designed the system to fail after 1 year, so they could sell newer machines. This unit was no different. It started leaking exactly 2 days after 1 year anniversary. Water leaked from the front door, which also happened to my previous Whirlpool front loader washer. Calling Maytag (number on Whirlpool production manual, so I assume Maytag bought Whirlpool) on the weekend will get you a generic "office is closed" message. Wait time to get a technician visit is about 4 weeks. It would take another month or two for them to order repair parts. If the repair did not fix the problem, you just spent $400+ with a still broken machine. Search for "Whirlpool Duet Door Leak" on Google, and read some of the other customers experience... Capacity - White I purchases this exact model 3 months ago. To date I have ran well over 70 loads through it.Thus far, I have no found any problems with it at all. It washes clothing to levels I didn't think possible. No issues, rattles, squeaks, leaks or odd characteristics. I read all the reviews around the internet. It's clear that when things work, people smile and move on. When something goes wrong, you must spread the hate. Honestly, money was no option when purchasing a quality washer and this did not let me down. This is the top rated machine by Consumer Reports for a reason, because it is that good. I purchased a 5 year warranty on it just in case. But, how it is built, I feel it will last 3-5 years before needing adjustments or repairs. Yes, I'm a real owner and not someone paid to pump up the ratings. (My Washer was purchased locally and not online) |
